Please and thank you

Always be courteous and well-mannered – please and thank you go such a long way.

Many of the niceties of life have been lost in the frantic pace of modern day life and the perpetual impersonal gluing of adults and children to screens of all sorts. Deliberate desensitizing perhaps?

People are exhausted and many lack the energy to consistently remind their children to simply say ‘please’ and ‘thank you’. How it warms our hearts when someone says these simple things.

Kindness is another attribute which would diffuse many of the ills in today’s harsh personal interactions. Youngsters, teenagers and young adults are often unkind. It’s ‘me first’, ‘what’s in it for me?’ or ‘that’s not cool!’ Bad luck about your feelings as long as I get what I want!

Teachers bear the brunt of this in schools. Respect of elders is rarely present. – especially in High Schools. Where did this disrespect and lack of fear of authority come from? I feel again common courtesies and kindness are lacking. Manners begin at home and spill over into pre-schools and schools.

Come on everyone, make the effort. Start today! It’s obviously better than the harsh alternatives we face now due entirely to the lack of feelings for our fellow human beings. Please…
